CPC’s joint venture, the NiMiC Ship Management Co. Ltd., cultivates the first Taiwanese chief engineer of an LNG ship

In July 2022, the NiMiC Ship Management Co. Ltd., a joint venture of the CPC Corporation, Taiwan (CPC) promoted Mr. Lee Chia-chu, an LNG ship’s crew member, to chief engineer. A graduate from the National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU), he is the first Taiwanese chief engineer of an LNG ship.

NiMiC Ship Management Co. Ltd. has been executing Taiwanese Cadet Program under full support from shareholders of the ship owner (NiMiC Ship Holding Co. Ltd.), NYK, Mitsui and CPC, and has recruited 24 Taiwanese cadets since 2011. Taitar LNG fleet now has 16 Taiwanese crew and cadets. The promotion of Mr. Lee Chia-chu, the first batch of senior crew, is a milestone for the cultivation of local LNG crew in Taiwan.

After graduating from the NTOU, Mr. Lee Chia-chu joined the first crew training program of NiMiC Ship Management Co. Ltd. in 2011. After screening, he was chosen to be trained to work on the Taitar LNG ship. He was promoted to the rank of chief engineer after ten years, and has begun work on Taitar No. 3, an LNG ship, which has sailed to Singapore for routine maintenance.
