Taiwan's New Southbound Policy shows results again: CPC will soon begin importing LNG from Australia's Prelude offshore natural gas field

2 Aug 2019

In 2013 CPC acquired an equity stake, along with foundation customer status, in Shell’s floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) project sited at the Prelude natural gas field lying offshore some 475 km north-east of Broome in Western Australia. On June 11th, CPC announced that the first shipment of LNG from the shipborne plant would be loaded that day. CPC’s first allotted shipment of product is scheduled to arrive at the end of October this year and will then set in place a new milestone in the progress of the New Southbound Policy.

Anglo-Dutch Shell is the managing partner of the Prelude FLNG project. In addition to CPC, the other partners include Japan’s INPEX and Korea’s Kogas. Following the completion of pre-production drilling and other preparatory operations in December 2018, the Prelude gas field’s first shipment of treated natural gas was loaded in March 2019.
